Claude Code Compatible Backend: CC Custom
CC Custom directs the installed Claude Code runtime to an Anthropic-compatible endpoint you configure. It is distinct from Custom API, which connects to an OpenAI-compatible direct model API.
Configure the route
In CC Custom settings, enable the backend and set its display name, base URL, authentication mode, and credential. Choose the authentication variable expected by the endpoint, save the credential, and use Test Backend.
The installed Claude executable is required. The endpoint operator determines whether the chosen protocol, authentication, model, and tool behavior are compatible. A saved URL and key are not evidence of a successful request; test the actual route.
Choose model behavior
No model flag leaves the model choice to the endpoint and omits Claude model and effort selection. Claude slot mappings maps the Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus slots to backend model IDs; all three mappings must be filled before launch in that mode.
Use identifiers from the endpoint's own catalog or documentation. See Models for shared identifier and selection concepts. Changing the endpoint or mappings does not make an incompatible model support the Claude runtime's requests.
Capabilities and billing
The route uses the Claude Code integration, but the endpoint's implementation determines the model capabilities and response behavior. Switching between compatible backends and standard Claude Code starts a fresh provider context.
The endpoint operator controls billing, privacy, and retention. Use a credential intended for that destination and review its terms. Neither an Anthropic subscription nor an unrelated API account automatically pays for this custom route.
