Session History

Session history lets you return to a task with its conversation and tool activity intact. Use it to find a previous investigation, continue an implementation, or compare what several agents found. A session's history describes its work; the files on disk can have changed since the last message.

Find a conversation

Open the Agent sessions sidebar to browse sessions in the current workspace. Rows identify the conversation and its activity; parent and child sessions can be grouped together. Select a row to open its transcript. RepoPrompt may show Restoring conversation… while it loads saved content. If restoration fails, use the displayed Retry action rather than starting a replacement task without checking the original.

The Agent Session Switcher jumps among sessions in the focused window. Search all Agent sessions searches active or recent conversations across windows. Their default shortcuts are ⌘K and ⇧⌘K; the sessions sidebar defaults to ⌥⌘B. All are configurable in Keyboard Shortcuts.

Give long-running conversations descriptive names using Rename chat. A name such as “Checkout cancellation review” is easier to recognize than a generic request. Oversight marks and their tooltips identify sessions that oversee others or are overseen; they do not replace the run status.

Move between active and stashed work

Use Shift+Command+A to cycle through sessions in the current window with unseen completed, failed, or waiting badges. Open the selected conversation to determine whether it needs an answer, approval, or result review; the badge alone does not establish success.

Command+W stashes a session tab. Shift+Command+T reopens the most recently stashed session. Stashing preserves the conversation and is separate from archiving or deleting saved history. These commands and the current-session actions can be remapped in Keyboard Shortcuts.

Resume and inspect the work

Select the session, read its latest result, and check its execution location before sending a follow-up. The provider, model, permissions, and worktree can differ from the session you last viewed. A stopped or completed task does not automatically resume merely because you open its transcript.

Expand tool cards to inspect file reads, searches, command results, edits, or Oracle consultations. This is useful when a result refers to a file or decision you want to verify. Some saved history loads in bounded portions; use Show more where offered.

For a fresh provider context or another agent, use Handoff where available. Review the destination provider and model and the prepared handoff context. A handoff is a way to carry useful task information forward; it does not make every detail of a long conversation fit into the destination's context window.

Archive and delete deliberately

Archive conversations you want out of the active list while retaining their saved history. The Archived Sessions section lets you revisit archived work. Read bulk-action counts before confirming an operation. Clear archived sessions and Delete chats permanently remove saved conversations and can also remove related sub-agent chats, as stated in the confirmation.

To disconnect coordination without deleting a conversation, use Unlink in Overseer controls. To find older work through an agent, the read-only history tool can search saved sessions across workspaces.
