What Is the Tip Version and Should I Use It?
Tip Builds are official signed and notarized builds from the latest passing main branch. They make development changes available before the next curated Stable release. Stable is the default update channel.
Which should I choose?
Use Stable for routine work when you do not need a particular development change. Consider Tip when you want to try a recent fix or feature, help test ongoing development, and can tolerate regressions or changing behavior. A passing build and notarization do not guarantee that every workflow is free of bugs.
Tip is a distribution channel, not a different subscription or an included model plan. A locally compiled source build is also different from the official signed Tip distribution; see How to Build.
How do I install it?
Install and launch RepoPrompt, then open Settings → General → Updates. Change Update Channel to Tip Builds, choose Check for Updates, and follow the updater's prompts if an eligible build is offered. Changing the selector or checking alone does not establish that a new version was installed.
Read the offered build information and preserve work you need before changing versions. If you report a regression, include the exact build and Tip channel in the issue report.
How do I return to Stable?
Set Update Channel back to Stable. The updater switches with the next applicable Stable release; it does not necessarily downgrade an installed Tip build immediately. To return immediately, reinstall the Stable app using the official installation or recovery download path.
Reinstalling the application is separate from reverting repository changes or migrating saved application data. Do not delete workspace data or Keychain entries merely to switch channels. See Software Updates for channel controls and Installation for getting the application.
