Custom API

Custom API connects a separate OpenAI-compatible model endpoint to supported RepoPrompt features. It is distinct from CC Custom, which routes the Claude Code coding runtime through an Anthropic-compatible endpoint.

Configure the connection

Open Custom API settings and enter the provider URL, including its API version path where required, and the credential expected by that endpoint. An endpoint that requires no authentication can use an empty key.

Leave Preferred Model ID blank to discover models. If the endpoint cannot list models, supply its exact compatible model ID instead. Validation with a preferred model sends a short test completion request, so it contacts the provider rather than merely checking the field format.

The settings reference describes output-token limits, model enablement, the Content-Type option, credential handling, and removal. Validate changes before relying on the route.

Models and compatibility

The endpoint operator determines available models and protocol behavior. OpenAI compatibility does not guarantee support for every streaming, tool, image, or reasoning feature. Follow the endpoint's documentation and Models when choosing an identifier and capabilities.

Per-model overrides in Model Config can adapt supported request behavior; they cannot implement missing endpoint functionality.

Account and billing

The endpoint's operator controls billing, quotas, privacy, and retention. A credential or subscription for another service does not establish entitlement here. Confirm the destination before saving credentials; the app can request consent before sending them to a non-HTTPS endpoint.
