Grok Build

Grok Build connects the installed grok runtime to Agent Mode. It is a coding-agent integration with model discovery and provider-native shell and editing capabilities. Direct Grok / xAI API model access is a separate integration.

Connect and authenticate

Make the Grok runtime available, authenticate with grok login or configure the API credential supported by the integration, then open Grok Build settings. Choose Connect and inspect the model-discovery result. Test Connection rechecks access; Sign Out disconnects Grok Build in RepoPrompt and clears cached availability.

Models and permissions

Use models discovered from the connected runtime. A model visible in xAI's public API catalog does not automatically identify the same selection in the coding runtime. See Models for discovery and identifier guidance.

Grok's launch approval choice applies to newly started processes. Its Full Access option starts the runtime with always-approve behavior for shell and editing tools. The settings reference explains the exact launch controls. Grok's own rules can also affect approval behavior; do not treat its modes as identical to Codex's sandbox levels.

Account and usage

The route used by the runtime determines the account and usage terms. When the integration supplies an xAI API key, requests using that credential are billed to the corresponding API account. Check whether a run is using account login or an API credential before assuming that one account plan covers it.
