Local Models: Ollama and LM Studio
The local-model integration connects RepoPrompt to a model server you run, such as Ollama or LM Studio. You install the server and obtain its models separately; saving a URL in RepoPrompt does not install or start either service.
Prepare and connect
Start the model server and make the intended model available there. Open API Providers → Local Model Settings, enter its URL, and choose Validate & fetch models. After discovery succeeds, select a model.
Common local ports are 11434 for Ollama and 1234 for LM Studio. Use the actual address configured by your server rather than assuming a default port proves the service is running. The settings guide explains refreshing discovery and resetting the saved configuration.
Models and capabilities
Model availability comes from the connected server. Browse Ollama's model library or inspect the models installed in LM Studio, then confirm what the server exposes to RepoPrompt. Capabilities and practical context limits depend on the model, server, and hardware.
See Models for selection concepts. A local-server connection does not automatically provide the coding-agent runtime or feature set of a CLI provider.
Local resources and hosted routes
Inference that actually runs locally has no hosted per-token API bill from RepoPrompt, but uses your computer's memory, processing, storage, and electricity. A server configured to call a cloud model or remote endpoint can have separate provider charges and data practices. Check where the chosen request runs before treating it as local.
